The Vouzela railway bridge over the Zela river was built in late 1913 and is today one of the symbols of the village.

Although it no longer works with its original purpose, it remains an impressive structure that marks the landscape of the urban center of Vouzela.

With 15 arches made of masonry, this construction is part of the Vouga Railway which is now converted into an Ecotrail. It was operating with rail traffic between 1914 and 1990.

To understand the existence of so many coats of arms on the buildings in this beautiful village, let us start by mentioning that Vouzela was a crossing point for several Roman roads.

In the Middle Age these roads were used by traveling merchants to do their business.

Later, Vouzela maintained its strategic importance, as it was an obligatory passage on the Lamego courts route, being a mandatory stopping point on the trip to Lisbon.

Over the centuries, this flow of people and the existence of some illustrious families native to this land, have left traces of the aristocracy of other times.

It is a building typical of the time of D. João V (18th century) with pediment and apron windows. Above the door there is the oldest coat of arms of Lafões and at the top there is a niche in the “audience bell”.

This building is located in an area with great importance in the foundation of the village, and in the past it functioned as a judicial court.

In addition to an ethnographic space, the Museum has a permanent exhibition of sacred art. In the archeology room, ceramic pieces are on display. It also has a Toy Room, with several old toys, including porcelain dolls.

Located in the municipality of Vouzela, the Cambarinho Botanical Reserve is a place of great biodiversity, hosting numerous species of great conservation value.

The particularity of this space is the presence of oleander, an endemic plant of the Iberian Peninsula, which in May and June offers its magnificent flowering representing one of the natural ex-libris of this territory.

Pastel de Vouzela is the most emblematic sweet in the municipality. It was born in the century. XIX in the village, fruit of the honorable work of an orphaned lady, who was adopted when she was a child by nine sisters. Two of them were nuns at the Santa Clara do Porto Convent.

Later, seeing herself with fourteen mouths to feed, she used the recipe for this delight that had been taught by the nuns.

The very light and thin pastry and the filling of egg candy, results in a unique gastronomic experience for those who taste them!
