Apresentação
The Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge is a challenge for road cyclists, where participants are challenged to complete three stages, corresponding to three courses previously designed on the slopes that surround the Serra da Estrela central massif.
Cyclists have a two-month window (from 18 August to 18 October) to reach their goal, which involves completing the three stages within a defined maximum time for each course. It is the participants who choose the day (s) and time (s) in which they intend to fulfill the three stages, doing so in total autonomy and assuming all responsibility for their behavior as citizens and practitioners of cycling, especially with regard to your safety and that of other users of the public road and in compliance with current health standards.
The courses signalization, the data recording, as well as the validation of the achieved goals and the performance of the athletes is done through electronic devices (GPS) and digital platforms developed for this purpose. All communication management and data verification are done by the team responsible for the development and management of Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge.
Serra da Estrela (Estrela Mountain), being the most grand and mythical cycling scene in Portugal, it is natural that overcoming and discovering may be the main condiments of this challenge. However, participants can enjoy an added attraction, fighting for their position in different rankings, by recording the time it takes to complete some segments identified in each of the courses, which correspond to some of the most iconic climbs of Serra da Estrela.

The Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge is based on three stages, with three courses, designed on the roads that serve the slopes of the central massif of Serra da Estrela.
The chosen courses take cyclists to some of the most emblematic scenarios of Serra da Estrela through roads with reduced car traffic. Their distances were defined, aiming to attract the widest possible range among the practitioners of the sport, especially considering the difficulty imposed by the altimetry of what is the only high mountain destination in our country.
Another of the concerns in the layout of the courses was to privilege the passage of cyclists through locations that guarantee that the participants will obtain the necessary support to carry out the stages (liquid and food refueling).

Based on these records, a table is drawn up with the time record of all participants in each of the segments, in each stage and in the set of the three stages. These timesheets are available in the “CLIMBERS BOARD” menu on the official Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge website.
The sum of the times recorded in the timed segments will allow the structuring of the Climbers Board (KOM and QOM ranking) for each of the stages. The sum of the three stages will determine the final ranking on the Climbers Board of Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge.
Only the times of the segments are validated, if registered during the activity corresponding to the course of each stage, when fully completed and according to the route and in the indicated direction.
The times of the timed segments are not validated, when recorded in an isolated way or inserted in activities that do not fully comply with the indicated courses and within the indicated time limits for each course.

Conduct

CONDUCT
The Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge is not a race, nor is it an event organized based on the individual and autonomous sports practice of each person, assuming each person full responsibility for their conduct towards themselves and towards third parties, as a citizen and a cyclist.
SECURITY
As such, safety and respect for other users of public spaces and roads, respect for all safety standards and in particular the road code and health standards in force, are factors that should not only always be present, but overlap above all others.
Not being an organized event, this challenge is based on the individual and autonomous sports practice of each person, assuming each person full responsibility for his / her conduct towards himself and towards third parties. At all times, athletes will be on the public route as a regular user, just as they are in their usual leisure or training activities.
INSURANCE
Participation in this challenge does not include coverage by any type of insurance.
Although it is not mandatory by the law in force, it is strongly advised that, like other vehicles that use the public route, cyclists are also covered by insurance not only for personal accidents, but also for civil liability. This is an important safeguard in the event of an accident.
Athletes who are members of the Portuguese Cycling Federation and who have their license up to date are covered by insurance with this type of cover. Athletes who are not federated and do not have this type of insurance can apply for membership in the Portuguese Cycling Federation through the official website - https://www.fpciclismo.pt/filiacoes.
ECO RESPONSABILITY
The courses of the Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge are traced in almost all their extension in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, a protected area of enormous beauty and extremely high environmental value. This fact should be a reason for all people who visit and enjoy this area to behave in an exemplary manner, safeguarding the value of this natural landscape and the sustainability of the Serra da Estrela destination.
Under no circumstances can garbage be thrown on the floor, or deposited in inappropriate places. All waste (empty packaging and others) must be transported by cyclists to the population centers where appropriate places to deposit them are located.
SPORTSMANCHIP AND FAIR PLAY
The Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge is a challenge that aims to appeal to the best values of sports practice. In addition to overcoming and conquering, civism, healthy coexistence and respect for others are added. Before, during and after carrying out the activities.
Despite the mechanisms that exist to validate the goals of each athlete or team, participation in the Serra da Estrela Riders Challenge necessarily implies on the part of each participant a commitment to honesty, respect and sportsmanship. And the fairness of your results in this challenge will always depend on the attitude of each participant.
Any attitude that goes against these principles, namely those related to the lack of respect or the use of less lawful methods to obtain an advantage in the results or in any other situation will imply the exclusion of the participant.
